- Inger Fredholm started the Gunga Din Company in 1968 selling her own
uniquely designed knitting models in a
knitting boutique in Enskede, suburb of Stockholm, Sweden.
- Inger had at that time been working for some Swedish fashion magazines
making the "monthly knitting model". This branch of the business extended.
During the 70:s Inger also worked for French fashion magazines
designing knitting patterns
in French.
- In 1975 the Gunga Din knitting boutique
moved to the historical Old Town in the center of Stockholm and had its doors
open there until 1985.
- In 1985 Inger and her husband moved to
Leksand, a small town situated at lake Siljan some 300 kilometers north of
Stockholm. From 1985 to 1993 Inger had the knitting boutique close to the big
house in the center of Leksand.
During this
time, Inger also worked with education: seminars and workshops. Inger has also
started some different textile programs.
- In 1993 it was back to Stockholm and Gunga
Din reopened at its current location in the center of the city (http://www.gungadin.se).
- Inger presented FredholmKnitting and
demonstrated the two handed Scandinavian knitting technique at the Knit-Out
2002,
the 6th of October at Union Square in New York City.
